Supporting Our Troops
As a locally owned, family-run business, we've always made an effort to give back to our community, and beyond. In the past we've coordinated food drives for the Hartland Food Pantry, and have supported several other local charities. Most recently, we held a social media campaign benefiting Caring for Camo, an organization that sends letters and care packages to U.S. troops serving over seas.
My brother Andy is one of three students at the University of Texas at Austin who started Caring for Camo in December 2012. Since then, the organization has also opened a chapter at UW-Madison, and plans to expand to universities in other parts of the country. In addition to our family tie to the new organization, we just thought it was a darn good cause. We wanted to get involved and help get the word out. So, for the first two weeks in February, we decided that each new "Like" our Facebook pages for Austin Plumbing and Polar Express received, we would commit to donating $1, up to $2,000, to Caring for Camo.
Between the two Facebook pages, the campaign produced a total of 430 new "Likes," meaning we were committed to donating $430. But, because we care so much for the cause, we decided to round that number up to an even $1,000.
We're honored to have the opportunity to help such a great organization and wish Caring for Camo good luck as they begin their journey to support those who so selflessly serve our country.
